Why NIE is not for me. |
---|
Somewhere on the internet, an individual (the person's identity kept anonymous upon request) shares her thoughts on why she decided against signing up with the National Institute of Education (NIE) for a possible teaching career. Reproduced below are excerpts from her posts:. |
""I previously made enquiries regarding entry requirements for NIE courses and it seemed that they are not concerned with "me" as a whole package; only poly/'A' levels results matter. Similarly, I had a friend who completed a degree at NIE and this is what she said: " It allows me to command higher tutoring fees after fulfilling my bond with MOE". I shan't disclose her name as she is a mutual friend. That's exactly the reason why I ended up not joining NIE. I cannot comprehend what I would learn from them besides the regular skill-sets of academic teaching, which I believed I have successfully acquired in my years of private tutoring. The only other plausible benefit I can think of if you decide to go under MOE is that you have access to their resources, which IMHO doesn't amount to a lot anyways. The salaries offered aren't that attractive either; which is why many teachers who have faithfully served their terms and feel that they can make a bigger difference in private tutoring (at the same time earn larger incomes) would choose to quit working in mainstream schools." THANK YOU MISS FOR ALLOWING US TO REPRODUCE YOUR POST. |
NOTE: THIS IS MERELY HER PERSONAL TAKE ON THINGS, AND DO NOT REPRESENT THE VIEWS OF ANY GOVERNING BODY. AFTERTHOUGHTS: THIS POST HAS TAKEN QUITE A LOT OF HEAT FROM THE PUBLIC SINCE ITS APPEARANCE, WITH SOME ACCUSING THE INDIVIDUAL OF BEING BIASED AND BELITTLING NIE-TRAINED EDUCATORS. SHE FEELS ABOUT THINGS IN A CERTAIN WAY AS A CONSEQUENCE OF HER PERSONAL EXPERIENCES, AND SHE IS ENTITLED TO VOICE IT. INSTEAD OF INCESSANTLY CRITICIZING THIS POOR SOUL WHO HAS BRAVELY STEPPED FORTH TO SHARE, I HUMBLY ASK READERS TO REFLECT ON WHY SHE WOULD HAVE MADE SUCH REMARKS. SURELY THERE ARE SOME GRAINS OF TRUTH IN HER WORDS? FOR THOSE WHO ARE WONDERING, I AM NOT FULLY SUPPORTIVE OF HER STATEMENTS, THOUGH I MUST ADMIT THERE IS DEFINITELY SENSE IN WHAT SHE IS TRYING TO PUT ACROSS, HENCE ME POSTING THIS OPINION PIECE. PEACE TO ALL. The Czar (Site Founder) Dated 22 November 2012 |
