Jim started teaching and tutoring in the 1990s. After graduating from the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore, he spent years teaching in primary schools and at various tuition centres. Over time, his curiosity and dedication to educational theory deepened, prompting him to pursue further studies.

Driven by a desire to enhance his knowledge, Jim went on to study at Oxford University, where he earned a Master of Science in Educational Research Methodology. Additionally, he obtained a Certificate in Teaching of Grammar from Cambridge. During his time in the UK, he conducted research in nursery and elementary schools and took an active role in teaching and counselling individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Upon returning to Singapore, Jim worked as a Research Associate at the National Institute of Education before becoming a Curriculum Developer/Specialist at one of the Ministry of Education’s future schools. His years of experience in educational research and curriculum development have contributed to his in-depth understanding of learning methodologies. Despite these professional roles, Jim’s passion for tutoring remained at the heart of his career.

In 2015, Jim founded The Squirrel Learning Centre, where he has since mentored and nurtured countless top-performing students, including some of Singapore’s PSLE top scorers. For his outstanding contributions to education, Jim was awarded the Best Achievement Tutor Award in 2012 and was inducted into The Domain of Singapore Tutoring Experts in 2015, recognising him as one of Singapore’s foremost expert tutors.
