NUS Module PL1101E Introduction to Psychology : A Review |
---|
Took it as my breadth module. Very interesting content. Lectures are skippable as all you need for reference in the exams is the textbook. Tutorials are not counted in the final grade as well so they can be skipped too. Still, I found the tutorials to be very interesting and worth going on all counts. Mid terms and Finals are MCQ-based, though the finals will also include a few short answer questions. I reckon the main determinant of your grade is the term paper (very, very short piece to be honest). The content of this module is really interesting. I have learnt so much and have been greatly enlightened in the process. I may even reread the textbook in the future just for personal pleasure! Content isn't littered with too much jargon and deep concepts so it is easy to understand. However, do note the scope of content covered in the general sense is rather broad. Studying for examinations killed a lot of my brain cells because the memorizing work was tedious. They will really test you on the smallest details from the textbook so you really have to memorize everything from ground up, which was not quite pleasant. In this regard, I spent a fair bit of time doing my revision for this module. The only good thing about the exams is that the questions asked were pretty straightforward, which involved neither much thinking nor application. So if you can internalize and regurgitate every fact in the textbook, scoring close to 100% is very possible. Overall, I do not regret taking this module even though the memorizing part was sheer hell. So if you enjoy psychology and have strong memorization skills, this module is highly recommended.
