My daughter committed suicide after being bullied in school

By Elaine Yeo

My late daughter's name: E K Jia Yun Angeline.

Angeline formerly studed at Admiralty Secondary School until she died from suicide. Prior to ending her life, she was severely bullied in school. My ex-husband and I had raised the matter to the school principal Lam Yu Ping on countless occasions, however we always got brushed aside by him and his administrative team. The recalcitrant trio of bullies (Amberly, Belinda, Thiri) personally ostracized my daughter, further demanding that everyone steer clear of her. To add salt to injury, Lam and gang chose to conveniently paint my daughter as a needy cum weak individual and myself, a compulsive complainer, rather than taking necessary action to address our legitimate grievances. Angeline thereupon grew increasingly withdrawn, eventually descending into deep depression. Then one day, she leapt off a building. She was not even 16 years old at the time of her death.

Word to the wise: Let my poor girl's demise serve as a stark warning; if you know of anyone or have kid(s) studying at Admiralty Secondary, please switch school immediately. Don't wail buckets only when something untoward happens to him/her, for it will be too little too late.

Lastly, to both Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Education Minister Chan Chun Sing, I sincerely hope your honourable selves will mount an investigation into why ASS wilfully allowed a bullying culture to persist, as well as overhaul existing school protocols to better protect all students enrolled with it.
