The following clip which captured a bullying incident at Montfort Secondary School was earlier forwarded to us by a reader; in it a boy is seen being shoved to the ground twice, even getting kicked in the rear upon falling. This unsavoury occurrence comes hot on the heels of two others which saw an Admiralty Secondary student striking his classmate with a metal water bottle and another girl from the same school ending her life after ceaseless taunting by peers. During a parliamentary session on 2 February, Education Minister Chan Chun Sing understandably exhorted parents to accord relevant school authorities ample rein as far as handling instances of bullying are concerned, yet it would appear the seemingly recent elevated spate of physical transgressions suggests not enough has been done to nip the issue in the bud. One innocent kid socked is one kid too many. If schools can't be proactive towards safeguarding students, perhaps it's only fair that the general public, or vigilantes - as Mr Chan so termed, take up the mantle. |
